On August 29, 2024, ROKY Holdings completed a community-focused Reverse Osmosis plant in Elayapaththuwa, Sri Lanka. This project was delivered in collaboration with the Foundation of Goodness, a nonprofit known for its rural development efforts. For years, residents in Elayapaththuwa depended on untreated groundwater. Unfortunately, this water often carried high mineral content and dangerous contaminants. As a result, chronic kidney disease and waterborne illnesses became common in the area. Recognizing the urgency, ROKY Holdings launched the RO plant initiative to ensure reliable access to clean, safe drinking water. This project was not only about technology. It was about meeting a fundamental need through meaningful partnership and sustainable planning.
Elayapaththuwa’s groundwater contains high salinity levels and traces of harmful minerals. These elements made it unsafe for daily use and caused severe long-term health issues. The absence of clean water disrupted lives and strained local healthcare resources. Now, with the RO system in place, hundreds of families receive purified water daily. This consistent supply significantly reduces exposure to waterborne diseases. It also restores a sense of stability to a community that faced daily uncertainty. Moreover, local residents received technical training to maintain the system independently. This step ensures sustainability and empowers the community to manage their own water supply. In turn, it builds resilience and ownership at the grassroots level.
ROKY Holdings led the project from concept to completion, managing all technical and logistical aspects efficiently. The team completed the installation within a few weeks, staying on schedule despite operational challenges. Today, the Elayapaththuwa RO plant stands as a fully functional, locally maintained system. It solves a vital health and infrastructure issue while reinforcing the value of community-led solutions. This initiative also reflects ROKY Holdings’ ongoing commitment to improving rural access to essential services.
