A survey done in Sri Lanka between 2009 and 2018 shows that Kurunegala has one of the highest CKDu prevalence at 10.1%. The Department of National Community Water Supply noticed the threat that this was posing on many villages in the area. This included areas such as Aththidiya, Madadobe, Walagampura, Ganthiriya and etc. Hence, the DNCWS hosted a bidding which chose the best design solutions for the given instances. From said bidding, we ROKY Holdings, were awarded the most suitable as our designs were able to balance cost, efficiency as well as suitability. Thus, we were able to build housing for the filters and install the respective water treatment plants.
We strongly believe that “Access to clean water should be a right, not a privilege”. Therefore, we are proud to take part in this project to make that belief a reality.
Kurunegala is a vibrant district where forested hills, flowing rivers, and rural communities come together in a unique natural and cultural blend. However, beneath the surface, many rivers are contaminated and are generally below average in the [test]. Due to this issue, many villagers are left to buy water from lorries that transport them, despite the occasional hefty prices. Moreover, many villages do not have suitable water treatment plants to clean the water either. Hence, in certain areas, water is not freely available source, but a privilege to have.
After gaining the bidding we were able to turn that around. We built housing for the water filters, and installed the respective water treatment plants in a span of 6 months. These were installed in,
and etc. The entire project consisted of 3 RO plants, 5 Nano plants and 8 housing projects, and summed up to a total cost of 19.5 million LKR.
The Kurunegala area is known to have a high CKDu prevalence rate. DNCWS noticed this and held a bidding to ensure that the company with the most suitable design was awarded the chance to build housing and install respective treatment plants to aid many communities in Kurunegala, including Aththidiya, Madadobe, Walagambapura and Ganthiriyawa. In just 6 months, ROKY Holdings was able to build housing and install filters in [] areas for a total cost of 19.5 million LKR. These installations will help the communities have better access to water, helping make our belief a reality.
