ROKY Holdings proudly announces the completion of a RO water purification system installation project in Meegalawa Primary School. This School, located in Sri Lanka’s North Western Province, serves over 550 students daily. Despite its educational mission, the school struggled with basic health and infrastructure needs. The region’s hot climate and recurring water-borne diseases made conditions especially difficult for students and staff. Many children suffered from dehydration or illness, leading to disrupted learning. To address this critical issue, ROKY Holdings initiated a sustainable solution in partnership with a leading Sri Lankan charity foundation. Together, they installed a fully automated Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification system on the school premises. The purpose was simple but vital—to provide consistent access to clean, safe drinking water for the entire school community. This project aimed to ease the physical burden on children and reduce preventable health risks. It created a foundation for healthier education.
Clean water access was not the only challenge. The team also faced logistical issues related to transporting equipment into a rural location. Power fluctuations and uneven terrain further delayed system setup. However, the partners worked closely with local stakeholders to overcome these technical barriers. Their shared commitment helped ensure timely installation.
The significance of this system cannot be overstated. Without clean drinking water, students missed school frequently due to illness. Teachers often brought water from home, adding unnecessary stress to their workdays. Now, with safe water available onsite, hydration levels have improved, especially during the region’s hottest months. Students remain more alert and active throughout lessons. Teachers also report better concentration and reduced fatigue among their classes.
The new RO system took less than four weeks to install and activate. It now supplies clean, filtered drinking water to over 550 students and staff each day. The school has already seen early signs of improved attendance and academic engagement. Hygiene levels have also risen, thanks to better water availability for cleaning and handwashing.
Looking forward, the school principal hopes to extend access to the local community outside school hours. This could improve overall public health and foster greater community unity. For ROKY Holdings, the project reflects their ongoing belief in simple, scalable solutions that uplift underserved communities.
